EVANSVILLE JAYS WIN BIG

On Sunday, July 16th the Evansville Jays (3-8) hosted Lake Mills (1-11) in a Southeast Section Home Talent baseball game. In the bottom of the 7th inning the Jays bats got just as hot as Sunday's heat index of over 100ºF. Evansville scored 9 runs on 6 hits, 3 errors, 2 walks and 1 hit batter to win by the 10 run rule in a game shortened 7 innings.

In the 4th inning with Jon Frey on first base, who reached on a strikeout-wild pitch, Nick Manion hit a base hit with the hit-n-run sign on. Next batter, Jerod Steindl hit a sacrifice fly to deep center field to score Frey from third base. Score Evansville 1 Lake Mills 0.

In the 6th inning Steindl reached on a fielder's choice and then stole second base. With two-outs Brookes Baumberger hit a clutch single to score Steindl. Score Evansville 2 Lake Mills 0.

In the top of the 7th inning Lake Mills scored on a lead-off solo home run, but that inning was the last time they would bat.

The Jays started the bottom of the 7th inning with 4 straight hits. Ben Kraus and Ryan Lindemann hit back-to-back singles, and then Josh Copeland hit a double to score Kraus. Next batter Jeremy Rasmussen singled in Lindemann. Two batters later Nick Manion walked to load the bases. Jerod Steindl hit a 2-RBI base hit. Brookes Baumberger reached base on a walk and Jason Schultz was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Ben Kraus. Remember, Kraus lead off the inning with a base hit. Again, he hit a base hit to score Steindl and Baumberger. Schultz scored on a throwing error by the catcher trying to throw out Kraus stealing second base. With two outs, Josh Copeland hit a ball that was misplayed by the left fielder to score Kraus to win the game. Final score Evansville 11, Lake Mills 1.

The Jays won their Night League game last Thursday, 6-5 over Pine Bluff. Evansville scored 6 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to come from behind to stun Pine Bluff. Evansville is now 5-2 in Night League play, and in first place. Evansville traveled to Monroe on Tuesday for a Night League game.

The Jays will host Ridgeway (5-3) this Thursday, July 20th at Lake Leota Park starting at 7:30 pm. Ridgeway is currently in second place of the night league standings, so this game will be a key match up in determining night league playoff seeds.

Also, Thursday is Evansville Youth Baseball Night at the Leota Park. It marks the end of the season for the summer youth baseball program. The "future Home Talent baseball players" are encouraged to come and enjoy the Home Talent game with their Gatorade (provided by the Bank of Evansville). Those young players should bring an item or keep a foul ball for the Home Talent players to sign to see how many signatures of these local stars they can get.

This Sunday, July 23rd Evansville will travel to Stoughton for a 1:00 pm game at the high school field in Stoughton. For the latest schedule and results please visit the team's website at www.evansville.hometalent.org.

This week the Evansville Home Talent Team would like to recognize their Diamond Sponsor: Subway of Evansville. Next week the Gold Sponsors will be listed. A complete list of sponsors is listed on the team's website.
