EVANSVILLE HOME TALENT HAS TOUGH
LOSS IN EXTRA INNINGS
On Sunday, Evansville (0-4) played their first extra inning game
of the season against Fort Atkinson (5-0). The score was tied 2
to 2 in the top of the 10th inning when Fort had the bases loaded
with two outs and hit a ground ball to Evansville's third-baseman,
Brent Cashore, who threw to Chad Rasmussen at first base. The runner
was called out by the field umpire. Fort Atkinson disputed the call,
and after both umpires met they reversed the call to runner was
safe. This allowed the runner from third to score, so the score
now was 3-2 still with the bases loaded and two outs. If the revered
call wasn't tough enough for the Jays, the very next batter hit
a grand slam homerun to add to Fort's lead to make it 7-2. They
added another running to put the score at 8-2.
In the bottom of the tenth inning, Jeremy Rasmussen reached on
his second hit of the day, but the Jays were not able to score.
The final score was 8-2. It was a tough way to lose such a well
played game by the Jays. Hopefully for the Jays, the team can use
this game as a building block towards success.
Highlight players for the Jays were Brent Cashore who went 2 for
5 with two doubles; Craig Paton, High School Senior starting his
first Sunday Home Talent game at shortstop, had two RBI singles
to score Jon Frey both times. Starting pitcher Nic Larson and relief
pitcher Jeremy Rasmussen both performed well on the mound scattering
Fort's offensive attach through nine innings.
As for last Thursday's game on May 31st, Evansville lost to Pine
Bluff 3 to 1 at Lake Leota Park. Evansville got their only run in
the fourth inning when Zach Hagen got his second hit of the game,
a triple, but as he was rounding second base he pulled his hamstring.
He had to come out of the game, and was placed on the "Disabled
List" for an unspecified amount of time. Rich Nelson entered
the game for Zach, and later scored on a base hit by fellow co-worker
at the Oil Pros, Davis Pryce.
