HOME TALENT GAME REPORTS
On Thursday, July 12 the Evansville Home Talent Baseball team traveled
Mt. Horeb HS field to play Pine Bluff in a South Night League game.
The Jays scored in the first inning when Jeremy Rasmussen and Jon
Frey started the game with back to back walks, and the next batter
Jerod Steindl hit a single to score Rasmussen. Evansville scored
next in the top of the third inning when Rasmussen led off the inning
by reaching on an error. Next batter, Frey, hit a deep shot to left
center that hit the top edge of the fence, bounced up and landed
back in play. Frey was able to leg out a triple and Rasmussen scored
on the play. Next batter, Steindl, hit a sacrifice fly to left field
to score Frey from third. Later in the inning Nick Manion reached
on an error and advanced to second on Jasen Koebler's base hit.
Next batter Craig Paton grounded to third, but in Pine Bluff's attempt
to get the third out with Koebler forced to second they threw the
ball in the outfield to score Manion. Score: Evansville 4 Pine Bluff
0. Pine Bluff scored in the bottom of the fourth inning on a 3-run
home run, and scored one run in the fifth inning. Score: Evansville
4 Pine Bluff 4. Evansville scored the eventual winning run in the
sixth inning when Koebler led off with a walk. Paton bunted him
to second, and Davis Pryce's base hit advanced Koebler to third.
Pine Bluff's catcher attempted to throw out Koebler leading off
third base after the pitch, but threw the ball over the third baseman's
head to score him. Final score: Evansville 5 Pine Bluff 4. Starting
pitcher, Josh Copeland performed well thru 4 and a third innings
minus the one pitch on the 3-run home run. Relief pitcher, Wade
Janes struck out the side in Pine Bluff's bottom of the seventh
inning.
On Sunday, July 15 the Home Talent Team was on the road again;
this time to Deerfield. The Jays were down early in the game as
Deerfield scored twice in the bottom of the second inning. Evansville
scored in the fourth inning when Craig Paton reached on a throwing
error and later scored on a fielding error. Score: Evansville 1
Deerfield 2. In the top of the fifth inning, Jon Frey reached and
advanced to second base on a throwing error that landed out of play.
Frey moved to third on a fielder's choice hit by Nic Larson. Frey
scored on a wild pitch. Score: Evansville 2 Deerfield 2. Deerfield
then scored two runs in the seventh. Evansville answered right back
with 5 runs in the eighth. Larson walked and scored on a double
by Nick Manion. Now with one out, Ryan Lindemann reached on another
error that scored Manion. Craig Paton and Jerry Woods reached on
back to back walks, so now with the bases loaded Brian Cashore (came
into the game earlier as a relief pitcher) ripped a 2-RBI base hit.
The Jays were not done in the inning. Ben Kraus (staring pitcher)
walked to load up the bases again. Next batter, Frey, was hit by
a pitch to score Woods. Score: Evansville 7 Deerfield 4. Deerfield
scored one run in the bottom of the eighth, and ended up winning
the game on a 3 run walk off home run in the bottom of the ninth
inning. Final Score: Evansville 7 Deerfield 8.
The next home game for Evansville is this Thursday, July 19 at
Leota Park starting at 7:30 pm against Monroe. The July 19 game
is Youth Baseball Night. Young Evansville baseball players and fans
are welcomed to the park to get player autographs, play catch with
the players, run the scoreboard, and grab free foul balls. There
will be a DJ game announcer for the game. On Sunday, July 22, the
Jays will travel to Oregon for a 1:00 pm game. On Tuesday, July
24 Evansville will host Orfordville to play the make-up game from
the originally rained out game on June 21. The July 24 game is at
Leota Park's Upper Diamond with a starting time of 7:30 pm. For
