EVANSVILLE HOME TALENT GAME REPORTS

On Thursday, July 12 the Evansville Home Talent Baseball team traveled Mt. Horeb HS field to play Pine Bluff in a South Night League game. The Jays scored in the first inning when Jeremy Rasmussen and Jon Frey started the game with back to back walks, and the next batter Jerod Steindl hit a single to score Rasmussen. Evansville scored next in the top of the third inning when Rasmussen led off the inning by reaching on an error. Next batter, Frey, hit a deep shot to left center that hit the top edge of the fence, bounced up and landed back in play. Frey was able to leg out a triple and Rasmussen scored on the play. Next batter, Steindl, hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Frey from third. Later in the inning Nick Manion reached on an error and advanced to second on Jasen Koebler's base hit. Next batter Craig Paton grounded to third, but in Pine Bluff's attempt to get the third out with Koebler forced to second they threw the ball in the outfield to score Manion. Score: Evansville 4 Pine Bluff 0. Pine Bluff scored in the bottom of the fourth inning on a 3-run home run, and scored one run in the fifth inning. Score: Evansville 4 Pine Bluff 4. Evansville scored the eventual winning run in the sixth inning when Koebler led off with a walk. Paton bunted him to second, and Davis Pryce's base hit advanced Koebler to third. Pine Bluff's catcher attempted to throw out Koebler leading off third base after the pitch, but threw the ball over the third baseman's head to score him. Final score: Evansville 5 Pine Bluff 4. Starting pitcher, Josh Copeland performed well thru 4 and a third innings minus the one pitch on the 3-run home run. Relief pitcher, Wade Janes struck out the side in Pine Bluff's bottom of the seventh inning.

On Sunday, July 15 the Home Talent Team was on the road again; this time to Deerfield. The Jays were down early in the game as Deerfield scored twice in the bottom of the second inning. Evansville scored in the fourth inning when Craig Paton reached on a throwing error and later scored on a fielding error. Score: Evansville 1 Deerfield 2. In the top of the fifth inning, Jon Frey reached and advanced to second base on a throwing error that landed out of play. Frey moved to third on a fielder's choice hit by Nic Larson. Frey scored on a wild pitch. Score: Evansville 2 Deerfield 2. Deerfield then scored two runs in the seventh. Evansville answered right back with 5 runs in the eighth. Larson walked and scored on a double by Nick Manion. Now with one out, Ryan Lindemann reached on another error that scored Manion. Craig Paton and Jerry Woods reached on back to back walks, so now with the bases loaded Brian Cashore (came into the game earlier as a relief pitcher) ripped a 2-RBI base hit. The Jays were not done in the inning. Ben Kraus (staring pitcher) walked to load up the bases again. Next batter, Frey, was hit by a pitch to score Woods. Score: Evansville 7 Deerfield 4. Deerfield scored one run in the bottom of the eighth, and ended up winning the game on a 3 run walk off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Final Score: Evansville 7 Deerfield 8.
