EVANSVILLE
HOME TALENT BASEBALL WINS TWO
On Thursday, July 19 the Evansville Home Talent Baseball Team hosted
their 2nd Annual Youth Baseball Night Game at Leota Park with a
DJ game announcer. This game gives a chance for young baseball players
in the area to meet the Jays up close and personal. The young players
in attendance were able to play catch with the EHT players, and
some even got to warm up the players on the field between innings.
During the game, foul balls were free; normally the balls need to
be returned to the game. Also, before, during and after the game
the Jays signed autographs on t-shirts, hats, balls and gloves for
the youngsters. It was a great community baseball night, and oh,
by-the-way, the Jays won the game 2-1 over Monroe. Attendance was
taken; with just under 150 people at the game.
For the win against Monroe, the Jays scored first in the bottom
of the third when Craig Paton led off the inning, and hit his first
of two hits in the game. Paton moved to second on a wild pitch,
and Jerry Woods bunted him to third. Next batter, Jasen Koebler
was hit by a pitch. Jeremy Rasmussen grounded to second to score
Paton and move Koebler to second. Next batter, Jon Frey hit one
to the third baseman who committed an error while Koebler scored
on the play. Monroe scored a run in the top of the fourth. Final
score Evansville 2 Monroe 1. Starting pitcher Nic Larson pitched
an excellent game in the complete game win. Larson struck out the
last batter of the game with the bases loaded for Monroe.
On Sunday, July 22 the Home Talent team traveled to Oregon to play
the Colts. The Jays started the scoring early as the first batter
in the game, Jeremy Rasmussen, reached on a base hit and then scored
on a double by Nic Larson. Larson advanced to third on a passed
ball, and scored on a base hit by Brookes Baumberger. The Colts
came charging back to score 2 in the second and 5 in the third.
Score after 3 innings: Evansville 2 Oregon 7.
The Jays chipped away at Oregon's lead in the top of the sixth
inning. It started with one out when Craig Paton and Jeremy Rasmussen
hit back-to-back singles. They both advanced a base on a passed
ball. Next batter Larson, reached on an error that scored Paton
and Rasmussen with Larson advancing to second on a throw to the
plate. Larson later stole third base and scored on a sacrifice fly
by Nick Manion. Score after 6 innings: Evansville 5 Oregon 7.
Evansville's breakout inning came in the very next inning with
7 runs. The inning's lead off batter Chad Rasmussen was hit by a
pitch. Next batter, Jasen Koebler walked. Then on the very next
pitch it got by the catcher with the runners advancing to third
and second. Next batter, Jon Frey singled in pinch runner Rich Nelson
with Frey advancing to second on a throw home. Next batter, Ryan
Lindemann was hit by a pitch to load up the bases. Craig Paton hit
into a fielder's choice for the first out at second, but Koebler
scored on the play. Jeremy Rasmussen hit a flare to third baseman,
but he misplayed it and Frey was able to score. Next batter, Nic
Larson singled in Paton from third with Rasmussen advancing to third
and Larson to second. Next batter Nick Manion hit a base hit to
score Rasmussen and Larson. Koebler singled in Manion for the 7th
run of the inning. Score after 7 innings: Evansville 12 Oregon 7.
In the eighth inning the Jays added two more runs. Ryan Lindemann
and Craig Paton were both hit by pitches back-to-back. Next batter,
Larson hit into a fielder's choice, but all runners were safe on
an error by the second baseman that dropped the ball on the force
out at second. Then Manion hit a base hit to score Lindemann and
Paton. Oregon added a run in the bottom of the ninth. Final score
Evansville 14 Oregon 8. Relief pitcher, Jeremy Rasmussen performed
well in earning the win. He scattered 9 hits, only allowed 1 run
and did not give up a walk in his 6 innings of work.
The next home game for Evansville is this Thursday, July 26 at
Leota Park starting at 7:30 pm against Verona. On Sunday, July 29,
the Jays will host their 3rd Annual Appreciation Day Game at Leota
Park against Jefferson starting at 1:00 pm. A DJ game announcer
