EVANSVILLE HOME TALENT BASEBALL CONTINUES TO WIN

On Sunday, June 15th Evansville Jays hosted the Cambridge Blues in a Southeast Section Home Talent baseball game at the high school's Stan Sperry Field. The Jays last played game was June 1st due to 3 games postponed due to the wet weather; however, despite the long layoff Evansville beat Cambridge 13 to 4 on 10 hits to extend their Sunday League winning streak to 4 games.

The Jays scored first in the bottom of the first inning when Craig Paton singled; Brent Cashore walked and was followed by Jake Bronkema's RBI base hit to score Paton. Evansville 1 - 0.

Evansville had a big inning in the bottom of the 4th inning. Chad Rasmussen led off the inning with a single. Jon Frey was hit by a pitch. Tim Legler and Bob Vredeveld both walked. Rasmussen scored on Vredeveld's walk. Two batters later and with two outs Craig Paton walked to score Legler. Next batter, Brent Cashore, with the bases loaded hit a 3 RBI double in the left field gap to clear the bases. Evansville 6 - 0. The Jays tacked on another run in the 6th inning when Nick Manion crushed a double and then scored on a base hit by Craig Paton. Evansville 7 - 0.

Cambridge made it interesting in the 8th inning when they scored 4 un-earned runs on only 1 hit and 2 errors. Evansville stomped out any hopes of a come back in the bottom half of the 8th inning by scoring 6 runs and batted around in the batting order. In the inning, Nick Manion, Brent Cashore and Jake Bronkema each had base hits. The highlight of the inning was Chad Rasmussen's 3 run home run to dead center, just clearing the 360 foot sign. Final score Evansville 13 Cambridge 4. Evansville's current Sunday League record is 4 wins and 1 loss.

Evansville continues their home stand on Thursday, June 19 when they host Rio for a 7:30 pm Night League game at Leota Park, and Sunday, June 26 Evansville (4-1) will host Utica (3-1) for a 1:00 pm game at the high school's Stan Sperry Field.
