EVANSVILLE HOME TALENT CLINCH
PLAYOFF SPOT DESPITE LOSING ON SUNDAY
On Sunday, July 27th, Evansville Home Talent Baseball Team (10-2)
traveled to Fort Atkinson (8-5) to play a Sunday league game. For
the second week in a row, the Jays found themselves down early in
the game when Fort scored 2 runs in the bottom of the first and
second innings to take a 4-0 lead.
The Jays scored 2 runs in the top of the sixth inning. Kendall
Buttchen led off the inning by reaching on a throwing error and
advancing to second base. Two batters later, Craig Paton singled
to move Buttchen to third; then Paton stole second base. Two batters
later and with two outs Brent Cashore ripped a double to right-center
to score both Buttchen and Paton. Evansville had a runner on third
base in the seventh and eighth innings, but where unable to score
in the final three innings. Final score Evansville 2 Fort Atkinson
4.
Evansville Home Talent Baseball Team with a current record of 10
wins and 3 losses was able to clinch their first playoff birth despite
losing on Sunday with one game to play in the regular season. Stoughton
lost to Whitewater on Sunday to give Stoughton five losses, and
Albion lost to Lake Mills over the weekend in a rain suspended game
from June 14 to give Albion 5 losses. Evansville and Utica are currently
tied for first place in the West Division of the Southeast Section.
The top seed and the rights to host the first round of the playoffs
is on the line this weekend. Utica hosts Stoughton on Saturday,
August 2nd, and Evansville travels to Albion on Sunday, August 3rd.
On Thursday, July 24th, Evansville defeated Cottage Grove 12 to
2 in a game shortened six innings, due to the 10-run rule. Evansville
has 3 wins and 5 losses in Thursday Night League play.
On Thursday, July 31st Evansville will host Utica for a 7:30 p.m.
Night League game at Leota Park. This is the Jays last home game
of the regular season. Stop by the park and check out the Jays,
and enjoy grilled burgers, brats and hot dogs. On Sunday, August
3rd Evansville (10-3) will travel to Albion (7-5) for a Sunday League
